When the load surface matters, the choice between a lifting sling and a wire rope sling has a clear answer: synthetic lifting slings offer superior load protection.
A flat sling that is properly stored can deliver years of reliable service. A sling that is stored improperly can degrade silently—losing strength through abrasive wear, chemical exposure, UV radiation, and mildew growth without any visible warning.
A round sling is constructed with a load-bearing core of synthetic yarns protected by an outer sleeve. Some designs include a red inner signal warning sleeve beneath the outer cover . This mechanism serves as a visual indicator: if the outer sleeve is damaged and the red inner sleeve becomes visible, it signals that the protective barrier has been breached and the load-bearing core may be compromised.
The answer depends on the sling material. Standard polyester and polyamide round slings are rated for temperatures up to 100°C (212°F) under EN 1492-2, while polypropylene slings are limited to 80°C (176°F) .
